FAQs - Important Information About Laser Cutting Services

These FAQs explain our laser services before you order. Product-specific requirements and acknowledgments are also shown on each service page and must still be accepted when applicable.

What is the difference between the three laser services?

Laser Cut Shapes is for ready-made designs from our shape library. Custom Cuts is for customers who already have a file they want us to cut. Create It for Me is for customers who have an idea or inspiration but need us to create the laser file.

What is the maximum size you can cut?

Each individual piece must fit within our 12 × 19 inch cutting area. A design may be larger overall when it is made from multiple separate pieces, as long as every individual piece fits within the cutting area.

What file types can I upload for Custom Cuts?

We accept SVG, DXF, PNG and JPG/JPEG files up to 10 MB. SVG is preferred for cut-ready vector artwork. PDF files are not accepted through the Custom Cuts calculator.

What does laser-ready mean?

A laser-ready file is prepared for production, not simply saved as an SVG. Vector paths should be clean, text should be outlined, pieces that need to stay together should be properly welded, and the file should not contain gaps, duplicate paths, problematic overlaps or hidden artwork. Operation colors should clearly show the intended work: red (#FF0000) for cut lines, blue (#0000FF) for score lines and black (#000000) for engraving. Black outlines indicate line engraving and filled black areas indicate full-area engraving.

What if my file is not laser-ready?

Custom Cuts offers a $10 file-prep service when your existing artwork needs production cleanup. File prep includes preparing the supplied artwork for laser production and one additional customer-requested adjustment. Additional adjustments are $5 each. Artwork recreation or a new custom design is not file prep and may require our Create It for Me service or a separate quote.

Do I receive a proof before production?

Yes. Custom file orders receive a PNG proof for approval before production. A proof is for reviewing the finished design and production setup. SVG, vector and other editable production files are not automatically included.

Can I receive the finished production file?

When an eligible file has been prepared by Kustomizables, a production-file release may be purchased for $10 per prepared SVG. A PNG proof is included in the normal approval process, but the editable production file is not automatically released.

How does Create It for Me work?

Create It for Me is our design service for customers who have an idea but do not already have a usable laser file. The starting $25 design fee covers one cohesive cut-file design concept and up to two revisions. You may provide up to five optional inspiration images. Production is not included in the design fee. After the design is approved, the physical production cost is quoted and invoiced separately.

What counts as one Create It for Me design?

One design fee covers one cohesive finished design concept. Multiple inspiration photos may be used to explain the same finished item, but separate products or unrelated design concepts require separate design fees or orders.

What design rights are available with Create It for Me?

Standard Design starts at $25. Kustomizables retains the production file and the design may later be offered to other customers. File Release is $35 total and includes release of the completed cut file, but the design remains nonexclusive. Exclusive Design + File Release is $50 total and includes the completed file; Kustomizables will not sell or release that design to other customers.

What counts as a revision?

A revision is a reasonable adjustment to the existing design direction, such as changing placement, sizing or an existing design detail. A substantially different concept, new product or complete redesign may be treated as a new design rather than a revision.

How long does production take?

Standard production time is 7–10 business days after final proof approval and after all required payments have been received. Design time, proof revisions, customer response time and shipping time are separate from the production window.

How long do I have to approve my proof?

Please respond to your proof within 10 calendar days. If we receive no response within 10 calendar days, the order is considered abandoned and is not eligible for a refund.

Can I make changes after approving my proof?

Final approval authorizes us to begin production immediately. A post-approval revision may be requested within 24 hours for a $5 fee only if production has not already begun. Once production has started, changes cannot be guaranteed.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Orders may be cancelled within 24 hours of purchase. After 24 hours, orders are not eligible for cancellation. Design fees, file-prep work and other completed services are nonrefundable. If we determine that an ordered item cannot reasonably or safely be produced, we will first offer an appropriate alternative and adjust any price difference. If no suitable alternative is available or the alternative is declined, the affected portion of the order will be refunded.

What materials do you offer?

Available materials include select TruFlat woods, Columbia Forest Products hardwood plywood, sublimation MDF and acrylic in multiple thicknesses, colors and finishes. Available services vary by material. The individual service calculator will show the compatible options for the material you select.

Can I send you my own material to cut?

No. We do not accept customer-supplied material. Orders are produced only from materials offered through Kustomizables so we can control material compatibility, thickness and laser safety.

Are these finished products or raw laser-cut components?

Unless a product listing specifically states otherwise, our custom laser-cutting services provide raw cut components only. We do not include gluing, painting, taping, sanding, glazing, staining, sealing, assembly, layering, hardware, accessories or embellishments. Adhesive backing may be added when offered as an option. Basic production cleanup is included.

What should I expect from laser-cut wood and acrylic?

Laser-cut wood may have normal edge darkening, char or minor laser marks. Acrylic masking is removed and acrylic is supplied with the laser-cut edge as produced; edge polishing or other edge finishing is not included. Natural wood grain and appearance can vary from sheet to sheet.

How does shipping work?

Standard shipping is $9.95 for orders totaling 1–20 physical laser-cut pieces and $20 for 21 or more pieces. Free local pickup is available. Shipping is currently limited to the contiguous 48 United States.

What happens if my order is damaged or lost in shipping?

Damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery and photos of the damaged item and packaging may be required. Approved damage claims are handled with replacement. Lost or delivery-related shipping issues are handled through the applicable carrier claim process.

What if I entered the wrong shipping address?

Please verify your shipping address before checkout. If an order is returned because an incorrect or incomplete address was provided, the customer is responsible for the cost to ship the order again.

How long will you hold a local pickup order?

Local pickup orders must be collected within 30 days after pickup notification. Orders not collected within 30 days are considered abandoned and are not eligible for a refund or free remake.

Can I resell physical products made from my laser file?

A Kustomizables Commercial License is available for a one-time $10 fee per customer account. It allows the customer to resell physical products made from eligible laser-ready files. The license does not permit resale, sharing, distribution or transfer of digital files.

Can I submit logos, characters, or other copyrighted/trademarked artwork?

You may submit artwork you created, own, or have permission or a valid license to reproduce. Purchasing or downloading a design file does not necessarily grant commercial reproduction rights.

Kustomizables will not knowingly reproduce unlicensed copyrighted or trademarked artwork. This includes protected entertainment characters and properties, professional or collegiate sports team artwork, brand and company logos, movie, television, video game and book characters, trademarked logos, mascots and slogans, and copied or downloaded artwork from another artist or seller when you do not have commercial reproduction rights.

School, team, organization or business artwork may be accepted when you are authorized to reproduce it, and we may request proof of authorization. Inspiration images may communicate a general style, theme or idea, but protected artwork cannot be made permissible simply by making small changes to it. Inspiration is okay. Copying is not. We may decline artwork we reasonably believe infringes another party's rights and ask you to provide an alternative.

Do I still need to accept the terms on the individual product page?

Yes. This FAQ helps explain our laser services before ordering. Each applicable product page contains its own service requirements, policies and required acknowledgments. Those product-page acknowledgments remain part of the ordering process and must be accepted before the order can be submitted.
